Presentation
A young male child presented with gradually increasing painful swelling around knee joint since last 2 months.
Patient Data
Radiographs of the left knee joint including leg were taken in AP and lateral projections.
Radiographs showing sclerotic lesion involving dia-metaphyseal region of the tibia with a wide zone of transition, osteoid matrix, periosteal elevation (Codman,s Triangle) and characteristic " Sunburst " type of periosteal reaction.
No significant soft tissue involvement or intra-articular extension is appreciated.
Case Discussion
The findings in a 9 years old patient; compatible with malignant bone lesions such as osteogenic sarcoma.
Osteogenic sarcoma is usually seen in 2nd decade. The distal femoral metaphysis is the most common site. Highly aggressive tumor with high fatality rates mostly due to pulmonary metastases.
