Wound is visualised on the lateral aspect of the foot with erosions in the head of the fifth metatarsal bone and soft tissue air.
Findings in the head of the fifth metatarsal bone and medical history are consistent with osteomyelitis.
Case Discussion
This represents a case of osteomyelitis. Wound culture was positive for Streptococcus spp. The patient was given antibiotics (vancomycin and cefepime) and a subsequent partial amputation of the 5th metatarsal was done.
