Siderotic synovitis of the knee

Presentation

Muscle fiber tear in the back of the knee while dancing.

Patient Data

Age: 25
Gender: Female

Diffuse synovial thickening with hypointense signal on both T1 and T2 weighted images. "Blooming" on T2* gradient echo images due to susceptibility effects of hemosiderin deposits. No focal or nodular lesions. The tibio.fibular joint is also affected. Recent hemorrhage on the medial gastrocnemius head.

Incidental finding. A coagulation disorder was hitherto unknown.
