Siderotic synovitis of the knee

Muscle fibre tear in the back of the knee while dancing.

Patient Data

Age: 25
Gender: Female

Diffuse synovial thickening with hypointense signal on both T1 and T2 weighted images. "Blooming" on T2* gradient echo images due to susceptibility effects of haemosiderin deposits. No focal or nodular lesions. The tibio.fibular joint is also affected. Recent haemorrhage on the medial gastrocnemius head.

Case Discussion

Incidental finding. A coagulation disorder was hitherto unknown.
