Presentation

Inversion trauma. Pain at fifth metatarsal.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Male

Fracture of proximal fifth metatarsal with sclerotic borders, suggestive of a stress fracture.

Case Discussion

The location of this fracture is typical of stress fractures, as opposed to regular fractures of the fifth metatarsal which occur slightly more proximal (Jones fracture) and the avulsion fracture of the apophysis which occurs even more proximal than Jones fractures.
