Knee radiographs revealed an intra-articular fracture of the proximal tibia, the tibial plateau. The medial tibial plateau is fractured, with an axial depression component. This characterizes a Schatzker type IV tibial plateau fracture.

Case Discussion

Tibial plateau fractures are fractures of the proximal tibia with intra-articular involvement. The injuries are usually the result of high-energy trauma.

The present case was classified as Schatzker type IV fracture.

The 5-day delay before seeking out medical attention is quite unusual due to the great pain and functional impairment related to these fractures.
