Presentation

Known case of liver cirrhosis with ascites and splenomegaly.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female
Ultrasound

Right uterine tube and uterus in patient with ascites due to liver cirrhosis, can you figure out the parts of uterine tube??

Annotated ultrasound of a normal uterine tube:

  • ampulla = red arrow
  • infundibulum = blue arrow
  • fimbriae = yellow arrow
  • uterus = green arrow
  • ascites = brown dot

Case Discussion

Usually the uterine tubes are not assessed well by ultrasound, but in this case, a good amount of free fluid delineate the uterus and the uterine tube, also the fimbriae (finger-like projections) is clearly seen.
