Acromial apophysiolysis represents bone marrow edema in an unfused acromial apophysis. It may predispose to os acromiale and rotator cuff tears.

Careful evaluation of the axial MRI high cuts in the shoulder is recommended to avoid misdiagnosing an unfused acromial apophysis with the acromioclavicular joint.
