Spigelian hernia

Discussion:

Spigelian hernia, also known as the lateral ventral hernia is considered a rare type of hernia when compared to other types of ventral hernia.

The hernial orifice of a Spigelian hernia is located in the Spigelian fascia, that is, between the lateral border of the rectus abdominis muscle and linea semilunaris, through the transversus abdominis aponeurosis.

The semilunar line, linea semilunaris, or Spigelian line is a bilateral vertical curved line in the anterior abdominal wall where the layers of the rectus sheath fuse lateral to the rectus abdominis muscle and medial to the oblique muscles.

It is important to always report if there are any signs of bowel incarceration in the hernia sac.
