A cholecystoduodenal fistula is a fistulous connection between the gallbladder and the duodenum. It is considered the most common type of enterobiliary fistulation.
Can vary but some can present with Bouveret syndrome 3 or a gallstone ileus.
This most commonly develops as a complication of gallstones, and can occur due to iatrogenic causes or due to the presence of a tumour 7.
CT
CT is considered more accurate than ultrasound 2 and allows direct visualisation of a tract between the gallbladder and the duodenum. Pneumobilia may be present as a result 6.
Treatment and prognosis
According to several papers, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is often successfully performed in these cases 4,5.
