Enthesitis

Dr Jeremy Jones et al.

Enthesitis refers to inflammation of the enthesis (the attachment of ligament or tendon to bone).

Enthesitis may be the result of repetitive mechanical stress or a more generalised inflammatory condition. Enthesitis is associated with the HLA-B27 inflammatory arthritides such as ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis and reactive arthritis, as well as juvenile idiopathic arthritis in children.
