Enthesitis (rare plural: enthesitides) refers to inflammation of the enthesis (the attachment of ligament or tendon to bone).
Enthesitis may be the result of repetitive mechanical stress or a more generalized inflammatory condition. Enthesitis is associated with the HLA-B27 inflammatory arthritides such as ankylosing spondylitis, psoriatic arthritis and reactive arthritis, as well as juvenile idiopathic arthritis in children.
