Volar ridge fracture of the trapezium

Hyperintense marrow signal on STIR and hypointense signal on T1 in the volar aspect of the trapezium. On the transverse gradient echo sequences, a small cortical defect at the base of the trapezial ridge can be seen. There is also hyperintense signal at the insertion of the flexor carpi radialis tendon, that may have been partially torn.
Case Discussion
There are two types of trapezial ridge fractures: at the base (as shown here) and at the tip (insertion of the retinaculum).
