Ballooned sella with flattened gland against the sellar floor together with central stalk.

MRI shows enlarged ballooned sella with flattened pituitary gland as well as the central stalk. The infundibulum sign is illustrated.

The rest of the study is unremarkable. No gross lesions explain the patient's symptoms.

An empty sella can be an anatomical variant or can be a sign of an underlying condition such idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
