Info

Cystic lesions in the wall of the popliteal artery with resulting collapse of the lumen.

The MRA shows a short segmental occlusion of the P1-segment.

Multiple ganglion cysts in the popliteal fossa.  A small tubular connection between the ganglion cysts and the adventitia of the popliteal artery can be seen in the axial PDfs.

Case Discussion

Cystic adventitial disease is a rare vascular condition with rapidly progressing claudication like symptoms.

A collection of mucinous material can be seen within the adventitial wall of the affected vessel.

This case nicely illustrates a tubular connection between the politeal ganglion cysts and the cystic adventitia, as suspected cause for the degeneration of the popliteal artery.
