Presentation
Ten-year history of constant headache with visual disturbances
Patient Data

The sella turcica is largely CSF filled with the infundibulum coursing through. The pituitary gland is atrophic and flattened to the floor of the sella.
Case Discussion
Most empty sella cases are discovered incidentally in otherwise well individuals. If symptomatic, most patients present with chronic headaches and visual disturbances thought to be associated with idiopathic intracranial hypertension. The empty sella is secondary to this rather than causative and represents out-pouching of CSF containing spaces, similar to the expansion of Meckel's caves that can be seen and prominence of the optic nerve sheaths.
