Two fluid-fluid levels are identified:

  • superior arrow: fat and blood
  • inferior arrow: non-cellular component of blood and cellular component of blood (hematocrit effect)

Case Discussion

Patient with distal femoral fractures.

Actually two levels could be defined; one level is between supernatant fat and blood; the other level is between dependent cellular elements of blood and non-dependent fluidly element of blood.

In our case the upper interface is between fat and blood and the lower interface is between blood and muscles and is not frank interface between blood elements.
