Fall with injury to the hand. Swelling and tenderness over the base of 1st metacarpal bone/ with painful thumb movements.

Intra-articular fracture and mild displacement of the base of the 1st metacarpal bone showing oblique fracture line extending into the articular surface.

Mild negative ulnar variance is incidentally seen.

Case Discussion

Bennett fractures are two-part intra-articular fractures of the base of the first metacarpal. They need to be distinguished from epibasal (pseudo-Bennett) and Rolando fractures.
