Presentation

Inversion injury while playing football. Tender and swollen ankle. Inability to weight bear.

Gender: Male

Large ankle joint effusion, but no fracture.

Case Discussion

Similar to the elbow, the fat pads around the ankle joint (anteriorly and posteirorly) are displaced by the soft-tissue density. In most cases, the ankle joint effusion is most clearly demonstrated anteriorly.
