The examined spine shows features of ankylosing spondylitis as follows:

  • shiny corner sign: irregularity and erosion involving the anterior edges of the vertebral endplates with high T2 signal

  • Anderson lesions: disc-related signal intensity abnormalities of both vertebral halves of a discovertebral unit; they appear hyperintense on T2 images and hypointense on T1-weighted images

  • multi-level bilateral apophyseal joint arthritis

  • upper axial images of the sacroiliac joints demonstrate total fusion
