The base of 5th metatarsal has a transverse lucency that represents an avulsion fracture and, on the oblique, a longitudinal lucency that represents a normal apophysis which is close to fusing.
Case Discussion
This child has an apophysis of the base of 5th and an avulsion fracture of the 5th metatarsal styoid. Avulsion fractures are within 2 cm of the metatarsal styloid tip and are transverse. There is a longitudinal lucency adjacent to the base of 5th metatarsal which represents a the apophysis of the 5th metatarsal.
