There is bifurcation of the sternal end of the right 5th anterior rib. The bilateral lung fields are clear. No pleural effusion is noted. The cardiomediastinal contour is within normal limits.

Case Discussion

A bifid rib (also called Luschka's rib) is a rare congenital abnormality of the rib cage with an incidence of 0.2%. This abnormality is commoner in females with right-sided predilection. The sternal end of the rib is cleaved into two. Bifid rib is associated with Gorlin syndrome.
