Presented with breathlessness and chest discomfort. Incidental findings.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male

Status post repair of chest wall, exact indication for the operation not known. However the distinctive appearance of the chest wall prosthesis represents the Stratos system. 

The main components are rib clips at each end of titanium chest bars.

Case Discussion

The Stratos (Strasbourg Thoracic Osteosyntheses System) system has a distinctive appearance. It has been designed for use in which part of the chest wall has been resected (e.g. tumor) and is often used in combination with a synthetic biological patch to replace the resected wall portion with bars and clips to connect it to the rib cage. 

With regards to pectus excavatum repair, this type of system tends to be employed for those in whom minimally-invasive procedures have not worked.
