Presentation

Anterior chest pain. Blunt anterior chest trauma before a week.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
ct

Right 7th and 8th costal cartilage fractures in a background of heavily calcified costal cartilages. There is an associated small underlying haematoma.

No underlying lung injury.

Case Discussion

Costal cartilage fractures are often due to blunt chest trauma. Heavily calcified costal cartilage is a risk factor for fracture in as in this case. Computed tomography is a sensitive examination for such fractures.
