CT guided drainage of hip collection

Stroke patient with tracheostomy. Late presentation of uncorrected right neck of femur fracture. Fever.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Male

Right neck of femur fracture.

Large hip/para-hip high attenuation collection with locules of gas within.

Seldinger technique.

Introducer needle, followed by stiff wire and finally 10F drain in the right sided hip collection.

Right neck of femur fracture.

Case Discussion

The procedure was performed in a supine position using the Seldinger technique.

Track dilated prior to a 10F locking drain insertion.

Altered blood was the content of the collection.  

Final diagnosis: Infected haematoma secondary to uncorrected fracture.
