Acute abdominal pain in the left lower quadrant.

Patient Data

Age: 40
Gender: Male

There is a fat-density ovoid structure adjacent to the sigmoid colon with a thin high-density rim. Surrounding inflammatory fat stranding is also noted.

Case Discussion

Epiploic appendagitis is a rare self limiting inflammatory/ischaemic process involving an appendix epiploica of the colon 1

The term along with omental infarction is grouped under the broader umbrella term intraperitoneal focal fat infarction 2.
