Info

Right solitary focal pedunculated bony overgrowths of the osseous external auditory canal at the bony cartilaginous junction. Associated with deep external auditory canal debris.

Normal middle and inner ear on both sides.

Case Discussion

External auditory canal (EAC) osteomas are rare focal pedunculated bony overgrowths of the osseous external auditory canal.

EAC osteoma is usually unilateral, solitary pedunculated bony overgrowth mainly at the bony cartilaginous junction. If large it may cause earwax, debris or secondary cholesteatoma

EAC osteomas should be differentiated from external auditory canal exostoses (surfer's ear), which are usually bilateral multiple broad based bony overgrowths.
