Info
Extra-articular fracture of the calcaneus involving the posterior tuberosity of the calcaneus not reaching the subtalar joint. Intact Achilles tendon. An accidental finding of an os trigonum.
Case Discussion
Fractures of the calcaneus are classified into intraarticular and extraarticular fractures depending on the involvement of the subtalar joint and are further classified into:
- type A fractures: the anterior process of the calcaneus is fractured
- type B: fracture of the mid calcaneus, trochlear process, and sustentaculum tali
- type C: fracture of the posterior tuberosity
Our case is classified as a type C calcaneal fracture as the fracture line involves the posterior process of the bone.
