Motor vehicle accident. Polytrauma patient. Pelvic radiographs were performed as initial trauma series imaging.

Loss of left femoral head sphericity with bony fragments in the femoroacetabular joint space and near the femoral neck.

Disruption of the posterior acetabular edge.

Comminuted fracture of the anteromedial aspect of the left femoral head.

Small fracture of the edge of the posterior acetabular wall.

No hip dislocation.

Case Discussion

Femoral head fractures are much rarer than other types of proximal femoral fractures. These injuries are seldom isolated and are usually associated with posterior hip dislocations.

In the present case, there was no associated hip dislocation.
