Info

A focal 22 x 20 x 18 mm (AP x ML x CC) sized intensely enhancing soft tissue lesion involving the petrous part of the left temporal bone in the region of the left jugular fossa caused adjacent bony erosion. It shows minimal intracranial extradural extension.

Laterally, the lesion shows minimal extension to the mesotympanum.

Case Discussion

The glomus jugulare is the most common tumor in the region of the jugular fossa. It clinically presents with a variety of symptoms depending on the cranial nerve involvement.

Imaging studies are required to demonstrate the extent of the lesion in the middle ear, external ear, and intracranially, as well as for predicting the outcome of surgery.
