Presentation
Right-sided sensorineural hearing loss
Patient Data

CT study shows abnormal ossification of the right membranous labyrinth with increased density of the cochlea and semicircular canals losing their normal fluid signal. Associated right chronic mastoiditis with sclerosis
The left side appears normal

The annotated images highlight the difference between right-sided abnormally ossified membranous labyrinth "cochlea" and normal left side
Case Discussion
Here is a case with typical CT findings of labyrinthitis ossificans correlating with the patient clinical history of SNHL. The degree of the disease is moderate to severe in CT. Associated chronic mastoiditis is presumed to be the cause of suppurative labyrinthitis with end-stage ossification (tympanogenic etiology). This disease has a poor prognosis and may complicate or preclude cochlear implantation.
