Legg-Calve-Perthes disease

Case contributed by Dr Matthew Lukies

Bilateral hip pain, worsening over recent months. Left side worse than right.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
  • widening and flattening of the femoral heads
  • retraction and widening of the femoral necks
  • mild irregular sclerosis of the left acetabular margin

Case Discussion

Findings in this case are in keeping with stage IV (healed) Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, consistent with the patient's known history. The current presentation of worsening hip pain, mostly on the left, is likely due to mild secondary degenerative changes demonstrated in the left acetabulum.
