Presentation

Abdominal pain.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
ct

Filling defect is present within the portal vein and SMV inferring thrombosis, accompanied by mild liver heterogeneous enhancement, as well as small bowel wall thickening, due to mesenteric ischemia.


The gallbladder is not seen at anatomical location due to prior resection.
Small fat-containing umbilical hernia is present.
In imaged portions of lower thorax; minimal pleural effusion is present bilaterally. 
Minimal amount of free fluid is present in pelvis.

Case Discussion

Mesenteric ischemia refers to vascular compromise of the bowel and its mesentery that in the acute setting has a very high mortality if not treated expediently. Mesenteric ischemia is far more commonly acute than chronic in etiology.
