Pituitary macroadenoma - prolactinoma

Patient Data

Age: Adult

Huge enhancing suprasellar mass with extension into sphenoid bone and cavernous sinuses. Note that although both carotids are completely encased in tumour, they are not stenosed. 

The patient was confirmed to have markedly elevated prolactin levels and they were treated with bromocriptine. No surgery or radiotherapy.

5 years later

Follow-up (5 years) demonstrates almost complete involution.

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates how successful medical treatment can be in individuals with prolactinomas treated with bromocriptine.
