Numerous mobile echogenic foci with indistinct posterior acoustic shadowing within the liver more significant at the periphery in keeping with portal venous gas.
Echogenic foci with indistinct posterior acoustic shadowing in the wall of some of the small bowel loops representing pneumatosis.
Case Discussion
In a child, the differential diagnosis for portal venous gas is necrotizing enterocolitis, gastroenteritis, erythroblastosis fetalis and in post-surgical status.
In this patient, portal venous gas with pneumatosis intestinalis is more in favor of necrotizing enterocolitis.
