For surgical planning, the R.E.N.A.L nephrometry scoring system has been very useful, initially developed for use in contrast CT but which can also be calculated from MRI characteristics.

Info

Right renal mass with defined edges, lobulated contours, with a non-enhancing necrotic center in the form of a scar and scattered fine calcifications, highly vascularized by the right renal artery. It displaces abdominal structures such as the small intestine and great vessels.

There is an incidental note of a ring artifact.

Case Discussion

The size of the tumor, the proximity to the collecting system, and the exophytic growth make it a highly complex tumor for its surgical approach.

The differential diagnosis between a possible oncocytoma and renal cell carcinoma is very difficult to predict with imaging studies alone since these lesions are very similar.
