Presentation

Progressive mental decline with cognitive impairment - incidental finding

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male

Oval-shaped cysts measuring less than 10 mm attached to the ependyma of the roof of the lateral ventricles body with central CSF signal intensity and T2/FLAIR hyperintense non-enhancing walls without diffusion restriction.

Case Discussion

A case of ring-shaped lateral ventricular nodules incidentally found in a patient with dementia syndrome.

Ring-shaped lateral ventricular nodules are small round or oval-shaped cystic lesions less than 10 mm attached to the ependyma of the roof and body of the lateral ventricles.

They may be single or multiple (as in this case) and are a rare and incidental finding in asymptomatic patients with no clinical significance.

Imaging characteristics consist of a thick peripheral non-enhancing ring of higher signal intensity compared to the gray matter in FLAIR with a fluid-filled center of cerebrospinal fluid signal intensity in all sequences.
