Secretions in the trachea. Extensive areas of perihilar consolidation, fibrosis, volume loss, and architectural distortion. Numerous fine nodules throughout both lungs. Few fine areas of subpleural ground-glass attenuation near the lung bases. No discrete mass separate from these areas of fibrosis. Numerous calcified mediastinal and hilar lymph nodes.
Case Discussion
Complicated silicosis with progressive massive fibrosis in this patient with a 10-year mining history. It is characterized by coalescing perihilar nodules and fibrosis resulting in a mass-like appearance.
