Small bowel obstruction due to incarcerated femoral hernia

Presentation

Elderly female presented with abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting since few days.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

CT demonstrates distention of proximal small bowel loops with air-fluid levels and herniation of small bowel loop into a right femoral canal. The small bowel loop that is within a hernia thickened and enhanced.

No free gas or fluid.

There are bilateral ovarian cysts and left renal cortical cyst.

Case Discussion

Femoral hernias can be difficult to differentiate from inguinal hernias on imaging. İn this case there is femoral vein compression which confirms a femoral hernia.
