Calf pain, mild leg swelling and overlying skin ecchymosis, one week after a sensation of something snapping within the calf while walking.
Patient Data
Intersecting fluid seen deep to medial gastrocnemius muscle and superficial to soleus muscle, near the level of the myotendinous junction.
Case Discussion
This patient presented with calf pain, mild leg swelling and overlying skin ecchymosis, one week after a sensation of something snapping within the calf while she was walking.
Ultrasound shows a small amount of anechoic fluid collection between the medial gastrocnemius muscle soleus muscle, near the level of the myotendinous junction.
Differential diagnosis includes hematoma and ruptured Baker's cyst; however, the clinical presentation and imaging features are suggestive of Tennis leg.
