- The umbilical venous line terminates in the approximate position of the right atrium
- The umbilical arterial line has crossed the aortic bifurcation and has gone into the femoral artery on the left side.
- Note is also made of the bilaterally reduced transparency of the lung zones with partial effacement of the heart borders and air bronchograms.
Case Discussion
Both umbilical lines are in a poor position. The umbilical venous catheter has been inserted too far, whilst the umbilical arterial line has been malpositioned in the contralateral femoral artery. Furthermore the lung demonstrates telltale signs of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome.
