Vesicoureteric reflux (ultrasound)

Presentation

Urinary tract infection.

Patient Data

Age: 30 mths
Gender: Male
Modality: Ultrasound

RIGHT kidney:moderate hydronephrosis and hydroureter is noted up to the vesico-ureteric junction. Vesico-ureteric junction shows reflux seen during color Doppler study. Floating tiny echoes are noted in urinary bladder.

LEFT kidney: No vesico-ureteric reflux.

Case Discussion

Vesicoureteric reflux (VUR) is an abnormal flow of urine from the bladder into the upper urinary tract. The vesicoureteric reflux is graded according to height of reflux up the ureters and degree of dilatation of the renal pelvis and ureters.
