CECT abdomen and pelvis

ct

There is blind-ending tubular structure measuring up to 12 mm in diameter seen in the midline infraumbilical region, which appears to arise from the distal ileum. It shows circumferential symmetric mural thickening and mucosal hyperenhancement, predominantly involving the distal segment, with surrounding mesenteric fat stranding and haziness. No adjacent free air or focal collection is observed—features likely indicative of Meckel’s diverticulitis.

Case Discussion

Meckel diverticulitis is the inflammation of a Meckel diverticulum, which is the most common congenital structural abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract. Despite this, it is an uncommon cause of acute abdomen and is often not correctly diagnosed pre-operatively.

In this case, CT findings were confirmed intraoperatively.
