Presentation

Pain and swelling of the left foot.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

There is a typical juxta-articular "rat bite" erosion of the left 5th metatarsal head with associated soft tissue tophus. There are juxta-articular erosions involving all the metatarsal bases.

2 years prior

x-ray

There are typical "rat bite" juxta-articular erosions involving the right first digit, interphalangeal joint with regional soft tissue tophus and swelling.

There are incidental Morton's toes (2nd and 3rd digits).

Case Discussion

Adult male patient with known chronic gout. There are typical juxta-articular punched out or rat bite erosions and associated soft tissue swelling consistent with soft tissue tophi.
