Short 5th metacarpal without shortening of the 4th, does not fall into the short 4th/5th metacarpal gamut, as it has a normal metacarpal sign.

Isolated shortening of the 5th metacarpals has also been recently described in a familial variant of Type A diabetes mellitus 1
