There is an avulsion fracture of the dorsal aspect of the proximal end of the distal phalanx involving approximately 50% of the articular surface with dorsal displacement of the fracture fragment.

Case Discussion

Mallet fingers are initially managed with immobilization in hyperextension. These injuries should be reviewed by a hand surgeon.
