Paraduodenal pancreatitis

Presentation

This patient presents with right upper quadrant pain for the past five days.

Age: 45 years

There is hypodensity between the medial aspect of the proximal duodenum and the pancreatic head/uncinate process. In addition, there is indistinct faint low attenuation involving the pancreatic head/uncinate process parenchyma.

Case Discussion

Patient with history of alcohol abuse and recurrent pancreatitis. Patient was complaining of five days of right upper abdominal pain and found to have mildly elevated lipase levels 136 U/L (normal range 16-58 U/L). The imagining findings are highly suggestive of paraduodenal pancreatitis (preferred to the older term groove pancreatitis).
