Severe diffuse hepatic steatosis. Elongated left hepatic lobe ("beaver tail").

The gallbladder is missing, as well as the cystic duct and artery. Nondistended common bile duct.

Prominent hepatic hilar lymph nodes.

Case Discussion

Patient with history of alcohol abuse up to his admission and chronic hepatitis B.

Complained of fever and chills. Elevated liver function tests.

CT abdomen notable for severe hepatic steatosis and lack of a gallbladder.

The radiologist requested that the treating physician ask the patient whether his gallbladder was removed. The patient replied that he had never had any abdominal surgery, thereby confirming the diagnosis of agenesis of the gallbladder.
