Presentation

Hypertension, chest pain.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male
ct
  • diffuse, circumferential, symmetric thickening of the aortic wall involving the entire visualized aorta (ascending, arch, descending thoracic and abdominal)

  • thickening and narrowing of all the major scanned aortic branches

  • complete occlusion of the left common carotid artery with trace central opacification distally

  • marked narrowing of the celiac trunk with post-stenotic dilation

  • dilated, mildly thickened pulmonary trunk, left and right pulmonary arteries

Case Discussion

The findings of a diffuse circumferential large vessel thickening in a young adult are consistent with Takayasu arteritis.
