Presentation
Post motorcycle accident. Right knee trauma.
Patient Data

Fracture of the tibial plateau with displacement of a small bone fragment in the central and posterior region of the tibial plateau, with joint effusion. Additional finding of an accessory ossicle (fabella) at the lateral head insertion of the gastrocnemius muscle.
Case Discussion
Fractures of the tibial plateau usually result from axial compressive forces, which can lead to the displacement of bone fragments to the intra-articular region and compromise the functional integrity of the knee joint.
