Info

Prior sternotomy for thymectomy for myasthenia gravis. Left-sided vagal nerve stimulator for uncontrollable seizures. Electrodes are applied to the left vagus nerve in the neck.

Case Discussion

Indications for the vagal nerve stimulator in this patient are uncontrollable seizures on multiple medications and severe depression.

Always placed on one side, the left vagus nerve.

Important to note that sternotomies are not always for cardiac pathology/procedures, here it is for a thymectomy presumably for a thymoma resection.
