Tumors of the seminal vesicles usually represent contiguous invasion of the seminal vesicles from malignancies in adjacent organs, most commonly the prostate. Tumors originating de novo within the seminal vesicles themselves are much rarer.
Epithelial tumors
Mixed epithelial-stromal tumors (MEST)
- subdivided according to their mitotic activity and necrosis into 5:
- low-grade mixed epithelial-stromal tumors (MEST) (benign)
- intermediate-grade MEST (uncertain malignant potential)
- high-grade MEST (malignant)
- great majority are benign
- benign types include
- fibroadenoma of the seminal vesicles
- adenomyoma of the seminal vesicles
Mesenchymal tumors
- leiomyosarcoma of the seminal vesicles
- leiomyoma of the seminal vesicles
- angiosarcoma of the seminal vesicles
- malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the seminal vesicles
- solitary fibrous tumor of the seminal vesicles
- liposarcoma of the seminal vesicles
- hemangiopericytoma of the seminal vesicles
Miscellaneous tumors
- choriocarcinoma: single case report 10
- schwannoma: single case report 9
- lymphoma of the seminal vesicles
- secondary carcinoma of seminal vesicles
- local invasion from adjacent organs
- distant metastases (rare)
